Welcome to Taekwondo @ Canberra Martial Arts
TAEKWONDO @ CANBERRA MARTIAL ARTS
Through our taekwondo program we aim to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to achieve their personal goals through self-belief, ability and physical fitness. Our Taekwondo classes include all the traditional techniques you expect from a martial art, but taught with a modern approach. This helps our students enjoy learning the Art of Taekwondo in a safe environment and develop skills which extend into all areas of life.
At CMA we offer International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) style training using a syllabus that focuses on building techniques from the basics. We work with students to develop their skills, fitness and flexibility as well as building a community culture, not merely to ability to kick and punch.
SUCCESS STORIES FROM MEMBERS
This course is one of the most practical and sensible things you could ever do as a woman, to help enhance your safety. It’s three hours packed with not only practical, real-world actions that you can immediately use, but it gives you a much better understanding of how you’re psychologically and physiologically going to respond when under threat, and how you can deal with those issues. It gives you an introductory understanding of the basic elements of self-defence and personal safety, and is also a great intro session for those who might want to take self-defence further.
I love these courses, they’re raw and powerful. There is so much energy in the room to feed off, and I always come away having learned something new and relevant.
Around 8 yrs old, decided on my own to start training, my parents didn’t make me go ever. One of my distant friends was training, along with lots of people I recognized in my community. They all left through the years and I decided to stay, despite changeovers in instructors 4 times as well. I think that’s success for a kid/teenager. As a result, I got the long term benefits mentally, physically and I gained the disciple to train hard at home all my life. I reached my peak at 16 but was told I was too old for a junior black belt and too young for a senior black belt so I waited. Just the next year I quickly learned life started to get more complicated and therefore harder to focus: college, uni, work, having a family. I’ve been training on and off for the last 10 years but never was able to peak like that again. Being older I also started noticing flaws in the organization, stayed loyal and determined as previously but those flaws started becoming unfair which made it hard to excel. Also, after having my first born I felt like I lost most of my identity and needed to reconnect with my old self, it was a success for me not to give up and stop forever despite obstacles and that I found this club and supportive team at 27. Taekwondo is also my happy place. I’m looking forward to the future!
