There are a lot of misconceptions about going to a Martial Arts club. Today, we’re going to dispel five of them so you can make a more informed decision.
Let’s get started!
1. It’s Not Always Packed With Burly Men Trying To Kill Each Other
Contrary to popular belief, not all clubs are packed with people who look like Jason Stathom or Chuck Norris. In fact, a lot of clubs these days have more average-sized people trying to get in better shape than competitive fighters.
2. You Shouldn’t Worry About Being Judged
I get it. It can be unnerving to go to the club for the first time, especially if you’ve been sedentary your whole life. You’re afraid you’ll get judged for not being as fit as everyone else or being able to throw kicks at head height.
In reality, though, most of the in-shape people you’ll find in club are too busy enjoying their training to think to compare you to them. Frankly, they couldn’t do it when they started – so they’re not able to judge.
The bottom line? Just focus on getting the work done and progressing at your own pace and you’ll be just fine.

3. You Don’t Have to Go to the Club for Cardio
If your only reason for going to the club is to do cardio, then just save your money and run, dance, or play sports at home or the park. There’s really no point in signing up for a membership if you don’t plan on at least trying a Martial Art OR giving the fitness classes a go for strength and conditioning.
4. It’s Doesn’t Have to Be Boring
You don’t always have to train the same way. Instead of machines, you can use kettlebells. Instead of doing straight sets, you can do circuit training. Instead of training alone, you can sign up for classes. There are countless things you can do to spice your training up.
5. It Gets Easier
No, I don’t mean the workouts. You actually need to keep challenging yourself to work harder if you want to keep improving.
Instead, what gets easier is the act of going to the gym. If you stick to your training long enough, it’ll become so natural for you that missing workout days will start to feel weird.
Give the Club a Chance (Unless You Just Want to Do Cardio)
Forget what you know (or what other people told you) about going to the gym for a minute and just give it a shot. I promise it’s way more fun and fulfilling than some people make it out to be.
